About HomePNA Device
Q. What is the difference between the "LINE" port (the lower one) and the "HomePNA" port (the upper one) of each RJ11 phone jack pair in HomeSW 1200 ?

A.

The "LINE" port is for connection from PSTN or PBX. The "HomePNA" port is for connection from HomePNA device, e.g. HomePNA card, HomePNA converter, or HomePNA switch. If you connect HomePNA device to "LINE" port, the HomePNA device will fail to work because the noise filter function of "LINE" port may filter out part of the HomePNA signal. The "LINE" port is for PSTN/PBX connection only. But digital PBX is not suggested to connect to HomePNA Switch because it may interfere the operation of HomePNA Switch.

Q. Could I connect two HomePNA Switch together by phone line?
A. Yes. You can connect two HomePNA Switch together by phone line. But you have to connect to the "HomePNA" port (the upper one) on both switches.
Q. What is the transfer speed and connection distance of the HomePNA connection for the HomePNA Switch?
A. It is 1Mbps speed and 500 feet distance maximum for each HomePNA 1.0 connection. But the real transfer speed will depend on the quality of the phone line. Cross-talk is always a problem on the phone line. If the quality of phone line is too bad, the HomePNA connection may become unstable and the performance will also go down. But it is no problem for most of the phone line.
Q. Will the HomePNA connection work if the connection is longer than 500 feet?
A. We have ever tried the connection up to 400 meters and the HomePNA connection still works. But it depends on the quality of phone line. It is 500 feet maximum in HomePNA spec. It is not guaranty for over spec connection. But you may try.
Q. What is "Power Level" and "Threshold" in the console setup? When should I try to tune their value?
A. "Power Level" is the power level for transmitting data on phone line. "Threshold" is the threshold for receiving data from phone line. They can be set from value 1 to 10 and the default value is 5. It is not the bigger value is better or the smaller value is better, but depends on the phone line condition. The default value is OK for most of the phone line conditions. You may try different values. But it may be not so obvious to affect the performance for some phone line conditions.
Q. Can I use network and make phone call at the same time by HomePNA connection?
A. Yes. Because HomePNA use different frequency from the phone call on the telephone line, they can work at the same time on the same line.
